ALUMNI ACTIVITIES

Celebration of CHINESE NEW YEAR - Feb. 17, 2007 at 6pm, SJS Campus

Out with the old; in with the new. It is time again to welcome the New Year through the Chinese New Year Celebration held on February 17, 2007. Different activities were prepared by the SJS and the SJS Alumni Association to celebrate this important event.

The famous Lion Dance opened the day's celebration. The morning was spent in visiting different business establishments in Naga City to greet the people with "Kung Hei Fat Choi".

In the afternoon, a mass and veneration of the ancestors was held. It was followed by an evening parade around the streets of Naga.

People went back to SJS after the parade to witness the yearly anticipated Cultural Show. The Well-wisher's Dance by Matthew Tang Lee Say and Aldrin Cheng, fourth year high school students, was the first performance of the night. It was followed by the Firedog's Farewell and the Firepig's Entrance which set the spirit of the festive event. The Kinder pupils did not fail the crowd with their performance of Ribbons and Drums. The musical talent of the SJS pupils amazed the crowed with the SJS Rondalla trained by Mr. Arvan and Harold Guia. A number from the Grade 2 pupils followed. Their happy dance truly made the audience smile. It was followed by a number from the SJS Fiddlers trained by Mr. Cirilo Aquino and Mr. Ernesto Paaño, and the Young Fisherman's Wish performed by selected Grade 3, 4 and 5 pupils. To complete the Cultural Show, selected high school students performed the traditional Chinese Fan Dance, Lion Dance and Dragon Dance.

Dinner and raffle followed. After which, a much awaited Acrobatic Show wooed the audience. Children and even adults enjoyed an amazing performance of different talents. The night was ended by a colorful fireworks display. It was truly a night of sharing of talents and a feeling of warmth as we welcome a brand new year.

The Officers of Alumni Association of St. Joseph School (Naga City) Inc. have decided to cancel the Dec. 23, 2006 Grand Alumni Homecoming instead we are appealing for your generosity to support the SJS Alumni Association RELIEF OPERATIONS to extend much needed help to the victims of typhoon Reming which devastated much of the Bicol Region.
